Seawall Development proposing big changes to Druid Mill on Union Ave
| Donald Manekin and his son Thibauilt are the father/son team behind Seawall Development. Seawall Development has now set it's sights on Druid Mill, the stone mill next to Pepsi on Union ave. Seawall plans on redeveloping the mill into teacher's apartments and non-profit office space.
A representative from Seawall will be at the next CCoW meeting on June 1st to present their plans (click here for an agenda) The plans include taking the part of the building closest to Union ave and creating 50-55 market rate (not section 8) apartments geared towards teachers in Baltimore City. The rest of the building closer to Pepsi would be leased as office space for non-profits. There's about 25,000 +/- square feet of commercial space for lease. They're also considering having some sort of cafe or restaurant there. There would be about 175 parking spots for the site, according to the initial plans presented to us. This isn't their first project like this. They re-developed the old Census building on Howard St between 27th and 26th as the same type of thing under the name Miller's Court. They ended up with a waiting list of teachers, so they feel like there's still a need for such apartments.
