Flea & Spree- Moved to Sept. 8th- Fun, Fun, Fun!The Woodberry Flea & Spree is scheduled for Sept. 8th. We're holding it from 10 am to 3 pm at Rockrose park, raindate Sept. 9th. The committee for the flea & spree moved the date back to allow more time to get permits and arrangements. This is going to be a lot of fun! We're going to have:
We can still use help! We need people to help with set up the morning of, working the kids games, sweets table and CCoW Table, and help getting donations for the event We're also accepting donations to help defray the costs of running the event- permits, food, awards, etc. Email us to learn more! Concerned Citizens of Woodberry's meeting schedule for this year
All meetings will be at WJZ at 6:30pm, unless otherwise indicated. Rouse Day project in Woodberry One of the next James Rouse day projects will be in Woodberry. The project workday is on September 15th and will run 9am to noon. The project will focus on cleaning up invasive plants in the park on Druid Park Drive and removing the rotten 70's style benches there. There will also be a stream clean up along Union Ave near Clipper Rd and the Light Rail. Finally, some volunteers will be removing invasive bamboo along Parkdale Ave in Druid Hill Park. Email us to volunteer! Update on work in Druid Park Drive park Concerned Citizens of Woodberry just learned that Recreation and Parks has gotten a $200,000 grant from State of Maryland Community Parks and Playgrounds program. This was a competitive grant program and our project beat out other projects throughout the state to get this grant. This money will be used to remove most of the concrete from the Druid Park Drive park and return it to green space. The grant will pay for the removal of all concrete walls, except for the rounded seating area. They city will start working with the community to plan this project starting this fall. We're also received a grant to put 2 attractive trash cans and a doggie clean up station in the park. Living Classrooms foundation is supplying the great maintenance in the park and will hopefully work with us to get the old rotten wood removed from the upper part of the park, as well as clear the hill of invasive vines between the park and the warehouse. |

| Block Captains needed!
Block captains help by informing neighbors about upcoming meetings and dumpster dates, and informing Concerned Citizens about problems so they can quickly be solved. Captains especially needed on Hooper Ave, Girard Ave and the 2100 block of Druid Park Drive between Keystone and Malden. |

Volunteer opportunities in Woodberry
Environmental- Here's your chance to make the woods healthier and help create a trail! No experience is needed- volunteer any anount of time. All are welcome. We are working on planting more trees in the forest where they are needed and creating a trail along Cold Spring lane that will eventually connect to the East Coast Greenway, which is currently being planned along the path by the Jones Falls in the woods. E-mail us for more info. Own your Block- Concerned Citizens of Woodberry is looking for a few good men and women to be block captains. No experience needed! Main responsibility is distributing quarterly newsletters. E-mail Concerned Citizens of Woodberry for info about this or how to join their group Design for better living- Have you always wanted to change something about Woodberry, but didn't know how? Work in our planning group! We are looking for creative ways to make the area more attractive, reduce vacant houses, and redevelop areas that are not used. Some ideas being worked on are the street trees, working to preserve as much open space as possible, working with the city on plans to redevelop Clipper Mill, and future ideas include widening the sidewalks on the 41st street bridg. We need your ideas! E-mail us! |
